B&W Technical Consultant Steve Scavuzzo received the 2023 Floyd Hasselriis Pioneer Award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers at its IT3 conference in Charlotte, NC. The award is given to an individual for pioneering work and outstanding contributions in the field of incineration and/or thermal treatment technologies. Recipient of the ASME Dedicated Service Award in 2005, Steve also was named an ASME Fellow this year. Congratulations, Steve!

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: Chanute, Kansas

Our manufacturing team in Chanute, Kansas, recently completed and found a creative solution for transporting three package boilers from the assembly shop into its onsite storage facility prior to their shipment to a customer in Kentucky. The radio-controlled “jeep trailer” with hydraulic and pneumatic functionality was a safe, cost-effective and time-efficient solution for moving the units.

Q: Should we be concerned with moisture in flue gas?

A: While not a pollutant, moisture in the flue gas can negatively affect downstream equipment. A direct contact cooler (DCC) recirculates liquid, cooling the flue gas so that moisture condenses. The DCC can often be designed for acid gas removal as well.
