B&W Awarded $35 Million Contract by the University of Alaska Fairbanks

Posted October 27, 2014
CHARLOTTE, NC

(CHARLOTTE, N.C. – October 27, 2014) – The Babcock & Wilcox Company (NYSE:BWC) announced today that its subsidiary, Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group, Inc. (B&W PGG), has been awarded a contract for more than $35 million to design and manufacture two boilers and air quality control equipment for a power plant owned by the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

The two B&W PGG circulating fluidized bed boilers each will be capable of producing up to 140,000 pounds per hour of steam for campus heating and power. B&W PGG’s scope of work also includes the design and supply of a pulse jet fabric filter baghouse for particulate control, fuel feed system, boiler auxiliaries, dry sorbent injection system and structural steel.

“We’re pleased that the University of Alaska Fairbanks has chosen B&W PGG and its technology to upgrade its campus power plant,” B&W PGG President and Chief Operating Officer J. Randall Data said. “This project is an example of how more efficient boilers and new pollution control equipment can make significant contributions to emissions reductions and the production of cleaner energy.”

Engineering is currently underway and material delivery is scheduled for spring 2016. Plant start-up is anticipated in spring 2018. The contract was booked in the third quarter.
