Feature Projects

Modular Boilers for Canadian Oil Sands

Requirement: Modular steam supply solution

B&W Scope: 8 x 573,000 lb/hr TSSG™ boilers; designed with patented drum internals to handle low quality feed water

Result: Highly modular TSSG design gave customer on time startup of reliable steam generators.

Petcoke Dewatering for US Refinery

Requirement: Petroleum coke dewatering system

B&W Scope: Design and supply of Hydrobin® dewatering system

Result: Fully modular plug and play design allowed fast project installation.

Three-Drum Water Tube Boiler

Requirement: Steam generation solution that could provide five minutes’ worth of water retention in case of a loss from feedwater pumps before a low-water trip to the boiler

B&W Scope: 115,000 kg/h (253,532 lb/h) elevated three-drum water tube boiler, dual low NOx burners, dual forced draft fans, economizer, control system

Result: Drum level didn't deviate more than 15 mm from set point during normal plant load swings. CO and NOx emissions well below required levels.

Transforming Our World, Since 1867

The year 2017 marked the 150th anniversary of Babcock & Wilcox, the company that began in 1867 with one patent, two friends and an unwavering commitment to reliable and effective innovation. When Stephen Wilcox first avowed that “there must be a better way” to safely generate power, he and George Babcock responded with the design for the first inherently safe water-tube boiler, and the company was born. This challenge to continuously improve endures today.

We are a company built and sustained by employees with curious minds and persevering wills. We work hard to earn the trust of our customers and deliver value with the highest level of ethics and integrity. The generations of employees who continue the legacy — who realize they are part of something Big & Wonderful — are the reason we celebrate this incredible sesquicentennial milestone.
