GMAB Environmental Solutions

Through our GMABTM solutions, B&W Environmental provides flue gas purification and flue gas condensation for a wide range of applications. Our unique patented flue gas technologies help our customers reduce atmospheric emissions of substances hazardous to the environment and health.  And GMAB flue gas condensation solutions are operating in more than 35 installations across the EU as a cost-effective method to recovery energy for a district or local heating grid.

Previously under the names of Babcock & Wilcox Vølund AB and Götaverken Miljö AB, we now offer our proven GMAB environmental and energy efficiency solutions for applications worldwide.

Our patented and secure ADIOX® dioxin separation technology has been installed worldwide. Our deliveries meet best available technology (BAT) and, through service agreements, we ensure strong performance and safe operation of plant equipment well into the future.

GMAB product line solutions include:

GMAB Brand Origins: Götaverken Miljö AB

The trusted brand and name Götaverken Miljö AB has its roots in the Götaverken Group – a major industrial conglomerate that included shipbuilding and boilermaking in Gothenburg, Sweden. Operations were located along the north bank of the river including Lindholmen, home to today's Lindholmen Science Park and our own offices.

1841  Alexander Keiller starts a mechanical engineering workshop for the manufacture of e.g. steam engines, turbines and bridge structures.

1886  "Uddeholm" – the first steam ship is launched

1906  Keiller sells the company and the new owner uses the name Götaverken for the first time.

1985  The environmental division is formed within Götaverken Energy AB.

1988  Götaverken Miljö AB is formed as a separate company focusing on flue gas cleaning, energy recovery and heat pumps.

2001  Development and marketing of ADIOX®technology for dioxin reduction begins.

2010-20  Götaverken Miljö is acquired by Babcock & Wilcox Vølund A/S and is integrated into Babcock & Wilcox Environmental as the GMAB product line - a suite of flue gas cleaning and energy recovery solutions

ADIOX Dioxin Removal

ADIOX® dioxin removal is an effective, safe and economical technology for scrubbing dioxins from gases.

This technology has been used since 2001 and is in operation at more than 100 installations worldwide. Typical application is at wet flue gas cleaning after waste incineration, but ADIOX can also be used in a dry flue gas and in metal and chemical industries where dioxins are present in the gas phase.

The material can be installed in scrubber systems or other types of equipment in a flue gas cleaning system and in installations for the thermal treatment of:

  • Municipal waste
  • Industrial waste
  • Hazardous waste, especially waste containing chlorine
  • Sludge
  • Biomass
  • Steel and metals

The material is installed in various applications:

  • Wet ADIOX scrubbers
  • Semi-wet (moisture saturated) ADIOX absorbers
  • Dry ADIOX absorbers
  • ADIOX droplet separators

Flue Gas Cleaning

Flue gas cleaning systems reduce atmospheric emissions of substances that are hazardous to the environment and health, including heavy metals, dioxins and substances that cause acidification and eutrophication.

Flue Gas Condensation

A proven and cost-effective method of recovering energy for a district or local heating grid is achieved by condensing the water in flue gases.

Dioxin Removal

Dioxins are highly toxic substances and can be formed when waste is incinerated. There are, therefore, very strict requirements set for their low emissions.
