Need to Lower Capacity but Maintain Availability? Please Stand by…
A manufacturing plant needed a way to keep one of its package boilers in hot standby condition to better adjust for steam demand. The installation of lower drum heating coils helped do just that, while reducing fuel, costs and emissions.

Find out how.

A Basic, Yet Important Equation: Efficiency = (Output / Input) x 100
Perhaps not as well-known as e = mc2 to those outside the power industry, another equation that has significant importance is efficiency = useful energy output / energy input. To optimize efficiency, it is important to minimize input (fuel being a major source) and maximize output (steam production).

Read Part 1 of our series on how a boiler operator can effectively manage various techniques and key functions to optimize efficiency, regardless of fuel or boiler type.

A Numerical Modeling Example – Sorbent Injection Systems
As our previous articles have illustrated, results from CFD modeling can be used in a wide range of applications.

This latest article shows how modeling can be used to determine reagent injection locations, nozzle design and the impact of directional flow devices in a sorbent injection system for optimal emissions control.

B&W SPIG Completes Cooling Tower Restoration Project in Tasmania
B&W SPIG completed this project at Bell Bay, Tasmania, a production facility owned by Tasmanian Electro Metallurgical Company. The plant’s existing cooling tower was completely rehabilitated with a fiberglass-reinforced plastic design, helping to ensure long plant life and avoid costly production downtime.
