Since 1867, our company has established a legacy of technology achievements and firsts:

  • 1867  B&W incorporated to market its patented water tube boiler

  • 1881  World's first public utility electricity powered by four B&W boilers

  • 1902  First subway in New York, USA powered by B&W boilers

  • 1918  First pulverized coal plant powered by B&W boilers

  • 1930  B&W Vølund develops its first waste-to-energy plant

  • 1935  B&W sold and placed into service the first "black liquor" recovery boiler in the USA which used a by-product of the pulping process as fuel.

  • 1957  B&W designs the world's first supercritical pressure coal-fired boiler

  • 2014  First U.S. ultra-supercritical power plant begins operating, designed and constructed by B&W
