Service life of boiler materials is influenced by the harsh conditions in the furnace.
The fireside corrosion test facility is designed to test and evaluate the performance of emerging and existing materials for power generation applications at representative boiler environment over long periods (>1,000 hours).
Three test rigs with separate temperature controllers and gas blending and supply systems are available. Representative gas mixtures are delivered to heated quartz or stainless steel chambers housing the test specimens.
Capabilities:
- Three independent test systems: Tube furnaces that can hold up to 30 test specimens; coupons of 1.25 in x 0.75 in size.
- Temperature: Can simulate both upper and lower furnace conditions
- Gas environment: Air, N2, O2, CO, CO2, SO2, SO3/H2SO4, H2S, H2 and H2O. Mixtures precisely controlled with mass flow controllers.
- Ash immersion: Coupons can be immersed in any simulated fuel ash.
