B&W's highly skilled engineers study boiler performance conditions prior to making retrofit or efficiency improvement recommendations.
Our engineers work closely with customer personnel in gathering the base data needed to ensure complete and accurate results.
Engineering studies usually begin with the creation of detailed computer models of the boiler and all of its subsystems. Complete furnace, superheater, reheater, economizer and boiler tube geometries are reviewed and analyzed. A detailed model of the steam and flue gas flow paths representing the actual boiler is made so that accurate prediction of thermal performance is achieved. Boiler efficiency and thermal performance at each operating condition or load is then computed.
Proposed improvements to boiler components, including any auxiliary equipment, are evaluated based on our design parameters, ASME material limitations and auxiliary systems performance limits. Our design standards are based on current technology as well as more than 100 years of boiler testing and data analysis.
