The Babcock & Wilcox DSVS rotating classifier incorporates the best features of both the stationary (static) and rotating classifiers, and can be installed in new or retrofit applications in verticle spindle air-swept pulverizers.

Designed to meet the economic, performance and environmental challenges facing the electric power industry, the DSVS rotating classifier improves coal fineness. When retrofitting an existing unit, a low NOx burner system may increase unburned carbon (UBC) loss. A rotating classifier can be used to mitigate this effect and restore UBC losses to pre-retrofit levels. The DSVS classifier also helps when switching to low sulfur western fuel by permitting easy fineness control based on fuel characteristics. The compact DSVS classifier can easily be retrofitted to existing B&W and non-B&W pulverizer installations without affecting external height or operation.
