Whenever a boiler experiences control problems, it is important to know the process, process response rates and control characteristics necessary to achieve smoother operation of the complex fluid flow machine. B&W's field engineers have the knowledge and experience to help you successfully operate your boiler.
Our operations-enhancing services include:
- On-site consultations
- Burner performance analysis
- Pulverizer performance analysis
- Air and flue gas flow studies and modeling
On-site consultation
Superior boiler performance is difficult to achieve because of the many interacting variables that may create boiler operation problems. B&W employs skilled engineers who have spent their careers analyzing and solving boiler performance problems.
Burner performance analysis
For steam load reliability and response rates, it is important to keep the burners tuned and adjusted for optimum operation. No one knows the relationship between your burners and the boiler better than your B&W service engineer, who has access to support and technical documentation through our district office and research support from our R&D center.
Pulverizer performance analysis
Pulverizer performance is vital for efficient boiler operation and slag control. For optimum combustion performance, low unburned carbon (UBC), low power consumption and extended wear rates, it is important to keep both the functional and mechanical aspects of your pulverizer tuned at all times. Primary air calibration, feeder control calibration, spring adjustment, classifier adjustment, bed level control, pyrites and tramp iron removal, coal conditioning and temperature control are a few of the many variables that help maximize pulverizer performance and reduce costs.
Air and flue gas flow studies and modeling
It is important to minimize temperature stratification and unbalanced flow conditions in boilers. Computer numerical modeling eases the evaluation of turbulence, flow separation and mixing conditions. It provides the complex analysis of the combustion and air or gas stream flow conditions at a minimal cost. If you notice that your boiler has a flow, temperature or O2 imbalance, you might benefit from a flow model study.
