Belt Conveyors

Belt conveyors (also known as band conveyors) are used to transport all types of bulk material and unit loads—both horizontally and sloping. Depending on inlet point and method of use, belt conveyors can be used as fixed or mobile systems.

Rubber belt conveyors are continuous conveyors (i.e., DIN 15201) and the basis for calculation and arrangement are determined according to DIN 22101. A conveyor belt system is designed according to specific material transport and is arranged based on customer needs.

In a belt conveyor, the one-piece belt is both the transport and the drive mechanism as it is carried by support rollers or a sliding table. The belt runs between two drum heads and is driven by a drive drum. Distance between support rollers, belt quality, tensioning, and other characteristics depends on inlet position and customer specifications.

Depending on the sector, the belt is cleaned by outer and inner belt cleaning systems of various designs and can include water cleaning devices. Belt turning devices also can be used under the belt system to keep the area clean. Clamping spindles, gravitational tensioning or special tensioning devices are used to maintain proper belt tension.

The drive is implemented by a drive motor in a 'shaft mounted form' or as a spur gear motor with flexible couplings, which is also available as a chain drive with protective casing. If needed, drive units with hydraulic couplings can also be applied, as can backstops or brakes. Non-conventional designs can also be built. The amount of drive motors and their arrangement will depend on design calculations.

Belts are installed as black or white PVC rubber or steel cable belts. Transport speed is calculated based on transport capacity and inlet points, and will utilize either a flat or troughed station with a suitable support roller diameter. Flat and profiled belts are anti-static, abrasive-resistant and can be delivered in a variety of grades.

Depending on the size of the radius, belt conveyors can be driven on a horizontal, concave or convex path. A reverse mode is also possible.

A B&W Loibl conveyor belt can be ordered with a rounded belt cover and floor troughs. It is also equipped with safety screens at hazard points, where risk of being pulled in is greatest.
