B&W offers FPS dual fuel igniters that are a careful integration of combustion technology, flame stability and flame monitoring.
The advanced igniter design was developed to achieve superior flame ignition with lower opacity. The dual fuel igniter is designed to fire natural gas or propane and #2 fuel oil with air atomization.
The dual fuel igniter serves a dual purpose because of its wide heat-input range. It offers a virtually pollution-free method of boiler warm-up when operated at maximum heat release, and with proper controls, operates at an economically reduced heat input for main fuel light-off and ignition support. It is designed as a simple plug-in replacement with little or no modifications necessary to the rest of the burner.
The dual fuel igniter is available in two models. A smaller diameter version is supplied with interchangeable gas and oil internals such that a single fuel is available for firing. A larger diameter version allows the gas and oil internals to remain in place simultaneously and either fuel can be fired with the flip of a switch.
The following FPS igniter design features enhance performance by eliminating many of the difficulties associated with conventional ignition hardware, thereby reducing maintenance costs:
- Stationary design eliminates difficulties with igniter insert/retract cylinders and limit switches found on other igniters
- Low-cost, plug-in design
- Integral flame scanner which senses only the igniter flame in any burner/boiler configuration
- Improved mixing of fuel and atomizing air for low opacity
- Variable heat input capability minimizes fuel consumption
- Atomizer air pressure remains constant throughout the igniter heat input range
- Self-cleaning Plasma Arc Ignition (PAI) System
- PAI system and integral flame scanner result in reliable light-off
- Easy disassembly of ignition components for inspection and testing
- Improved mixing of fuel and combustion air for superior flame stability
- Proven performance with over 5,000 igniters in operation worldwide
FPS oil igniters are used in a variety of utility boiler applications; including front or opposed wall firing, turbo furnace, cell burners or low NOx burners.
A fuel, air and purge valve, manual isolation valve, strainer, PRV, fuel pressure indicators and a local control cabinet are available and custom fabricated to control one to four igniters.
