In some cases, an additional level of safety is required over and above the traditional safety system. In these instances a hard-wired emergency shutdown procedure (ESP) is implemented.
An example of one such case is on a black liquor recovery boiler, where an ESP is required in the event of a water or steam leak into the boiler.
FPS has designed an ESP system that is widely used in conjunction with our designed safety systems. The ESP provides a means whereby the operator can, in a single operation, shut down the boiler by removing all fuels and place the boiler in a predefined condition to safely remove all combustible gases and isolate any possible source of water or steam.
B&W will engineer, design and build an emergency shut down system(s) either as a single standing unit or as an integrated part of a supplied system.
