B&W offers several FPS products for upgrading and improving performance of existing igniters on corner-fired boilers.

The upgrade offerings are the result of continued research and development and include:

Replacement Horns

Horns with holes or severe cracks in the horn wall will adversely affect igniter operation. B&W offers a single pour, cast stainless steel horn, equipped with mounting plates to match the existing configuration.

Igniter Booster Guns for Oil Igniters

The FPS igniter booster package increases heat input up to 14 million Btu per hour, bringing the total igniter heat input to 20 million Btu per hour. The igniter booster gun consists of an additional oil atomizer mounted on top of the igniter horn. Installation of the booster gun requires minor modifications to the igniter horn and igniter mounting plate. The booster package is supplied with oil and atomizing air hoses with quick disconnect couplers and a pressure regulator.

SunSpot Flame Detector Retrofit Kit

SunSpotThe SunSpot Retrofit Kit is available to replace P (differential pressure) type flame detectors on gas or oil igniters on corner-fired boilers. The easily installed retrofit kit requires no modification to existing igniter hardware. The SunSpot II flame detector utilizes ionization and flicker characteristics to sense the flame in an igniter. It is supplied as standard equipment on all FPS igniters.

Plasma Arc Ignition (PAI) Systems for Oil Igniters

PAIB&W offers an efficient FPS spark ignition system to overcome the common problem of carbon build-up on the spark plug in older horn igniters. Over time this carbon build-up reduces reliability of the igniter spark, and consequently the igniter.

The PAI system is designed to provide a high output pulsed spark (3 sparks/second) for the forceful ignition of fuel oil. Each powerful spark pulse creates a shock at the spark plug tip, which disperses any material collecting on the tip of the spark plug. This continuous cleaning of the spark tip reduces the need for manual cleaning characteristic of continuous voltage ignition systems.

The PAI can be easily retrofitted on existing oil horn igniters and ensures optimal sparking for effective ignition.

Flow Regulators for Oil Igniters

regulatorThe FPS flow regulator is designed to improve the operation of oil horn igniters. The igniter oil supply is regulated to the optimal level required to achieve efficient fuel atomization and burning within the environment of the horn. The fuel supply is connected to the 1/4" NPT inlet at the middle of the regulator body and the outlet is connected to the 1/4" NPT connection at the top of the regulator body. There are no flow adjustment or calibration settings on the device. Service is limited to cleaning any debris that may collect inside the regulator.

Control Box/Valve Assemblies

Control boxB&W offers an FPS igniter control box/valve rack assembly specially designed to match the layout of corner-fired boilers. The assembly consists of a NEMA 4 control box with door mounted pilot devices to allow local control and monitoring of igniter operation. The control box houses the SunSpot flame detector electronic module and field terminals for the igniter and igniter electrical valve connections. Attached to the bottom of the control box are valves to supply fuel and air to the igniters.
