B&W's supercritical boiler designs offer the flexibility to meet the most demanding steam generation needs of our customers.
Our supercritical boiler technologies include:
At supercritical pressures (above 3200 psi; 22.1 MPa), steam turbine efficiency improves significantly compared to the typical subcritical cycle. This efficiency improvement leads to reductions in both fuel input and emissions output. The combination of utilizing supercritical throttle pressures along with an increase in throttle temperatures provides additional overall plant efficiency improvements that result in cost reductions in fuel handling and usage, flue gas treatment and ash disposal. B&W's supercritical boilers are designed to take full advantage of variable pressure turbine operation.
Specific advantages include:
The load change rate capabilitiy of the system is not restricted by the turbine
Steam temperature at the inlet and outlet of the reheater is nearly constant over a wide load range
The boiler feedwater pump power is significantly reduced at lower loads
Short startup times
