The Babcock & Wilcox Company
Establishes Chief Operating Officer Position
B&W's Mary Pat Salomone to Assume New Role
LYNCHBURG, Va., January 6, 2010
The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) has announced that Mary Pat Salomone is named Chief Operating Officer (COO) for B&W. Ms. Salomone will be responsible for directing the day-to-day operations for B&W and its five business units. She will report directly to Brandon C. Bethards, B&W President and Chief Executive Officer.
B&W and its parent company, McDermott International, Inc., recently announced the spin-off of B&W as an independent, publicly traded company, subsequent to a nine-to-12-month transaction process.
"As we move forward in positioning B&W to be a standalone company, this new COO position will play an integral role in the overall success of this important transition," said Bethards.
"B&W is fortunate to have such depth of internal talent and leadership as demonstrated in Mary Pat," Bethards continued. "Her technical, project management, and operations and business experience in both our power and government business segments make her uniquely qualified to serve the company in this new position."
Ms. Salomone has over 27 years of experience within B&W and Marine Mechanical Corporation (MMC). She served as President and CEO of MMC from 2001 through 2007 and was responsible for the company's overall strategic direction, operations and financial results. She was a member of, and reported to, MMC's Board of Directors. Before joining MMC in 1998, Ms. Salomone held numerous roles of increasing responsibility in two of B&W's operating units - Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear Operations Group, Inc. (B&W NOG) and Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group, Inc. Since 2007, Ms. Salomone has filled a number of critical senior leadership positions at B&W NOG and B&W Corporate.
Ms. Salomone earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from Youngstown State University and a Master of Business Administration from Baldwin Wallace College. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Naval Submarine League as well as Cleveland's Manufacturing Advocacy & Growth Network (MAGNET).
