Argonne National Laboratory

Mission
The first national laboratory, Argonne is one of the nation's leading centers of federally funded research and development. Managed by UChicago Argonne, LLC, Argonne's mission is to conduct R&D in the national interest in support of the U.S. Department of Energy.
Contract/Budget
- Argonne has an annual operating budget of about $475 million.
- UChicago Argonne, LLC, of which BWXT is a member, is the governing entity that oversees operations at Argonne National Lab. The contract award is for five years, with the option for noncompetitive renewal given satisfactory performance for a total contract period of 20 years.
Infrastructure
- ANL is located on 1,500 acres in DuPage County, about 25 miles southwest of Chicago, Illinois.
Workforce
- About 2,900 employees work at ANL, including about 1,000 scientists and engineers. Of them about 750 hold doctorate degrees.
