B&W Canada Signs CO Boiler Replacement Contract with Shell Canada Products

CAMBRIDGE, ON: March 31, 2006 B&W Canada has signed a contract with Shell Canada Products for the supply and installation of a Carbon Monoxide (CO) Boiler for Shell's refinery in Corunna, near Sarnia .

The CO Boiler will be engineered and manufactured by B&W Canada's Cambridge , Ontario , facility. The boiler, which will replace an existing unit, is scheduled for delivery to Sarnia in September 2006 and will be installed during the refinery's planned shutdown. Engineering, material procurement, and manufacturing are already underway, as the result of a Letter of Intent, received several months ago. The contract will result in more than 8,500 shop hours and about 34,000 construction hours for B&W Canada.

The boiler will use Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit (FCCU) fuel gas and refinery gas. The FCCU produces a hot gas that will, under certain conditions, contain a percentage of carbon monoxide. The CO Boiler is designed to recover heat from the hot gas and convert the carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide, resulting in additional heat and reduced emissions.

The bottom-supported CO Boiler will have a design capacity of 150,000 lbs/hour of steam at 750°F and 660 psig. One of the unique features of this unit, which will stand 63' from ground level when installed, is that it will be designed to reuse the old foundations, saving time and money for the customer.

"This contract is an extension of our refinery experience," says Mike Boardley, Proposal Manager, B&W Canada. "Along with our engineering expertise, B&W has a safety-oriented approach and I believe these were key elements in attracting this new boiler customer."
