B&W Canada Signs Contract with Bruce Power for Sixteen Replacement Steam Generators
CAMBRIDGE, ON: October 17, 2005 B&W Canada has signed a contract with Bruce Power L.P. to manufacture 16 Replacement Steam Generators (RSGs) for the Bruce A Nuclear Power Plant, Units 1 and 2. The RSGs will be engineered and manufactured at B&W Canada’s Cambridge, Ontario, facility and are scheduled for delivery to the Bruce A site between 2007 and 2008. The new steam generators will be installed during the Bruce A Units 1 and 2 Re-Start Project. Engineering, material procurement and manufacturing are already underway.

B&W Canada originally manufactured the Bruce A Units 1 and 2 steam generators more than 30 years ago. The replacement steam generators will feature Alloy 800 tubes and design enhancements to reflect lessons learned from the original equipment and B&W Canada’s experience in supplying steam generators for the U.S. and CANDU markets.
Bruce Power Nuclear Power Plant is located on the eastern shore of Lake Huron, north of Kincardine, Ontario. The Bruce A and B stations each consist of four CANDU pressurized heavy water nuclear reactors. Unit 1 and Unit 2, each rated at 769 MWe capacity, were taken out of service in 1997 and 1995 respectively. Re-starting of Bruce A Unit 1 and Unit 2 will generate additional electricity output to serve the electricity market.
