USW 2859 Rejects B&W Canada's Three-Year Deal
CAMBRIDGE, ON: September 12, 2005 The United Steelworkers, Local 2859, voted on September 11 against accepting a three-year deal offered by Babcock & Wilcox Canada. The union represents approximately 340 employees in the Cambridge shop and is now in a legal strike position.
The previous collective agreement expired 12:01 a.m., August 31, 2005.
The negotiations have already spanned a three-month period.
"These negotiations are an important challenge for our Cambridge location. Once a collective agreement is established, our employees can continue their focus on executing our current projects and meeting our schedule commitments," said Rich Reimels, President of Babcock & Wilcox Canada. "I have confidence that the negotiating teams and membership will negotiate a mutually beneficial agreement as soon as possible."
