Babcock & Wilcox Engineers Honoured with Awards

BARBERTON, Ohio, November 13, 2001 William Schneider and Donald E. Ryan have been selected as the most recent recipients of Babcock & Wilcox's (B&W) prestigious Engineering Honors Award. The two, respectively, are the 22nd and 23rd recipients of the award, which is given to outstanding engineers who have made numerous contributions to the development of the company's products and services.

Schneider, manager of Nuclear Technology and Steam Generator Services, joined Babcock & Wilcox Canada in 1967, and has spent his entire B&W career at the forefront of the nuclear field. He has held various positions within the company's Nuclear Engineering department, including management and supervisory roles, and is well known in the industry for his nuclear steam generator design innovations. A 1963 graduate of the University of Waterloo with a degree in mechanical engineering, and with a master's degree from McMaster University in 1965, he holds four U.S. patents and has authored more than 20 technical publications.

Ryan, Engineering and Estimating manager for B&W's U.S. service business, began his B&W career in Functional Engineering after graduating from Clarkson University in 1974 with a degree in mechanical engineering. As he progressed to positions of increasing responsibility in Boiler Technology, Proposal Engineering and Engineering supervision and management, he continued to cultivate his engineering and leadership skills. A member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Don received a Professional Engineer's license in the state of Ohio in 1984 and a master's in business administration from the University of Akron in 1985. He holds two U.S. patents.

B&W's Engineering Honors Award recognizes outstanding present or retired employees of the company. Instituted in 1983, the award honors individuals who have made extraordinary, long-term contributions to the success of B&W's products and services.
